saturday morning

I live between two extremes.
Completely filled or empty.
I would love to know your thoughts on the first one. I made it quickly and very instinctively last night.
When I say very quickly I am sure it was hours, but whose keeping track?

  1. loving the laughter! and the layers/build up of connections and complexity. v interesting :)

  2. Interesting energy in the first one, something to explore further. That said, I liked the second one, especially the white space, it created a wonderful tension with the two figures. Extremes are good.

  3. I don't know. The laughter one feels less like you. But it could be a new direction to explore.

But I much prefer the second one - you are so good working with small gesture and expressions - and empty spaces. The layering and patterns I feel like I've seen so much in many other artists' work. (me being very honest now)

  4. Thanks Belinda and PK
Alexandra I really appreciate your honesty! I love that about you and I need it. I am trying to figure things out right now and it is so refreshing to have a critical view.

  5. Ah! I love Alexandra's honesty! I tend to agree with her about the patterns but I like the laughing faces. Like with other characters, their expression is ambiguous. You wonder if they laugh to hide a certain pain or if it their happiness is genuine...

  6. Wow, what a contrast between the two. I am used to seeing your characters more controlled and solemn.... pensive. These laughing ladies seem frivolous to me in comparison. Regardless, I
think that the fact that you say this came so instinctively is really interesting. On one hand, for me, this is very busy and distracting, I'm not sure where to focus and it makes me feel a bit uneasy( like these ladies are laughing at me) but it could also feel like a an an explosion of something repressed... something that needed to come out perhaps ? :) I am thinking about P.K.'s comment-" Extremes are good"- Maybe you just needed to balance the outlet scales for a moment :) ?
Have you ever heard that song by Raffi- " Shake My Sillies OUt"? That song just came to mind as I was typing this.

all over the place tonight... Happy Painting!

  7. Darn, I wrote my comment and forgot to scroll back down to untangle the word.

I think the first picture is a wonderful family reunion of people who have all their stuff and feelings together in a moment out of time. I want to party with them and celebrate that moment. The bottom couple seem afraid of being alone, the world is too confusing and they don't seem to feel a support system. Such a turnaround from the first picture. If you show these somewhere it would be neat if they were side by side to show such a difference.

  8. maybe they are so happy ´cause they´re about to loosen up something thats been holding them real hard, something that they have been holding too hard. something inside.

and then the complete filled emptiness?
