The second painting so much reminds me of how it felt to become a mother, how my whole identity was suddenly subsumed into that of being "Mother". The proud father retains his clear identity and personality, the baby is beginning to form her own, but the mother is just this universal entity, there to nurture. I also love how the baby and the mother are melded together--their forms merging into each other.
I like the first picture for it's "family portrait" feel. The second makes me think of my niece who had depression after her baby was born. Some of us don't take to motherhood right off (like me) and it feels odd, you are out of sync with everyone else. This picture shows that.
