I am altering and working over black and white photographic images. It has helped me to be more conscious of what I distort and I like the shading underneath. I intend to try to achieve that in larger drawings by creating a black and white image to work over. It is really enjoyable to alter real people, cut off their hair,add teeth, widen their necks and turn up their noses. It reminds me of what I used to do to TV guides when I was younger. I also think it would be fun to take one image, print it many times and distort it many different ways to see how it would evolve. Would it become a family or a sequence of the possibilities and behavior of a single person?
I can't tell you how much I look forward to your posts!! I love these!! There is so much dimension to them. My response to seeing the first image was OOOOOO. I know real sophisticated. They are alive. They are 3 dimensional. There's a sense of nostalgia gone wrong. Keep rockin', sista!!
ReplyDeleteI must say I am in love with these, in particular the second image - but also the use of space within the first image, I can see these in a larger orchestrated crowd working very well.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen Christian Holstads 'Eraserhead' drawings? There is one titled 'Defending Decisions', which I see a real connection with to not just these, but your whole body of work.
Wow. I'm really impressed with your approach to creating these pieces. So much more to them than meets the eye. I really love the idea of it being either a "family" or dimensions of one person.
