These are all drawings/prints from a project that I have been working on. I like the image of the woman holding a fish. Men hold fish more often than women and usually as a prize catch displaying victory. Tales are told of past catches and of the large ones that got away. I thought of how women hold things and of women listening to those tales told over and over again. I like the woman holding a fish who cannot hold, that cannot breathe out of water yet there is a calm. I like the fragile relationship and the quiet understanding.

It seems considerate and tender. What a contrast to today's factory farming.
ReplyDeletethey are lovely
ReplyDeletelove the grey cloudy thing of thoughts
I like these very much. I find fish fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThe loving connection- of two entirely different sorts of life force- Of course i love these- I love everything you do! These are extremely heart felt especially considering what we have done to the sea, the rivers...
ReplyDeletebeauty.
ReplyDeletesuch nice and wide thoughts and words.
I can't stop thinking that all of these should be titled "What Have We Done?" It is hard to listen to the news and do nothing.
ReplyDeleteEvery one of these is exceptionally beautiful Aris. The first one reminds me of Madonna and Child... #3 - why do I keep thinking Harriet Tubman? Helping the fish escape? Whispering scaly words of freedom and hope... I love the visible fields of connection between the two.
ReplyDeleteAre you thinking of making prints of these? I so hope so. Although they are a similar to your birds being held, the emotion is of such a different quality.
I admire and am constantly stirred by your reflection on the emotional quality of your art. I like your thoughts on the contrast of victory over fish as a prize as opposed to fostering or nurturing one.
the second and fourth- the transparency of the fish and how its color is also part of the woman's arm, I like how you did that :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like she is nursing the fishes, but also like she is their grandmother. Tenderness...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the drawing (snow white) that you mailed me... it has brought me a lot of inspiration!
